“There is no reason for any individual to have a computer in his home.”

Ken Olson, President, Chairman and Founder of Digital Equipment Corporation, 1977

Over thirty years on and, when things go wrong, many of us wish we could turn the clock back to the world of Ken Olson in 1977!

Everyone’s computer can be set up slightly differently; different web browser software, security settings and Internet connectivity. So, it is not always easy to pin point a solution to a particular problem. However, below are some common issues which we hope will help you.

For more information on typical problems, click on the links below...

I am having problems viewing the small preview videos on the Home page

The short preview videos on the Home page load and play automatically using Flash technology from Adobe. They should start to play as soon as you arrive on the site, refresh the Home page or click on the Latest Video tab on the left hand side of the Home page. If you do not have Flash installed on your computer, you may just see a blank space where the video plays.

You can get the latest free software from Adobe or visit www.adobe.com/uk/ and follow the links to Flash player downloads or click here

Our short preview videos play twice then stop on the final frame and remain as a static image until you move around the site and return to the Home page. Each clip lasts approximately 25 seconds.

Unlike the complete, full screen versions of our guru video reports, the short preview videos have no sound.

If you would like to see the full video report and in high quality, simply click on the video at any time or click on the View Details button to go to the relevant offer page.

I am having problems viewing the full video reports using the Flash player

Flash Player

You will need to have Flash Player Version 8 or above to be able to view the videos. This software is from Adobe or visit www.adobe.com/uk/

Our videos are originally filmed on location using high-definition cameras. Each video report lasts approximately 5 minutes. In order to compress these large video files so they can be quickly download over the internet to your computer, the original video files are compressed (or encoded) into VP6 FLV (or Flash) files at an approximate bit rate speed of 800kbps. Most PCs and internet connections speeds should be able to play these files smoothly and continuously. However, computer memory and connections speeds do vary greatly and these can affect how smoothly the video plays.

You can test your bit rate speed by viewing the test flash videos at http://demo.cachelogic.com/flashtest/

System requirements for Flash

There are some system requirements to run this verson of Flash.

Your monitor settings

Finally if the video playback appears dark on your screen or is difficult to see, try adjusting your monitor (display) settings.

I can’t post or read member reviews

You will need to register as a travelguru member to read or post reviews. If you are not registered, you should see a prompt on the screen to register when you click on a member only area. Simply complete the form and you should then go through to the review page.

Your computer will be sent a cookie so that you will not need to register again when you return to the site. If you access our site again from another computer or you have deleted the cookies on your computer, you will need to provide your name and email address again.

Once you have accessed a review page, you may not see any live reviews. This will be because there are no published reviews for that particular destination at that time.  As a relatively new site, we hope to build up the reviews over the coming months.

Please note: Once you post a view, it can take up to 24 hours for it to be published on the live site.

I've already registered as a member so why do I need to register or log in again?

When you register, you should receive a confirmation email from us. In addition, your computer is automatically sent a small cookie so that the site can remember your computer when you return at a later date. This avoids having to remember user names and passwords.

How your computer manages cookies will depend on your internet and security settings. If you access the site from a different computer or the cookies on your computer have been deleted, you will need to register again by providing your name and email address.

If you have problems accessing the Member only pages after you register, please try one of the following:

  • Simply complete the Register form again. The cookie does expire over time but your membership will not be duplicated
  • Check your Internet browser and/or security software settings to ensure your computer allows cookies to be received
  • Make www.travelguru.tv a "trusted site" in your Internet browser options

If you are using Microsoft Explorer, you can find these setting by clicking on the "Tools" option in the Explorer toolbar menu at the top of your screen. Then select "Internet Options" and choose from the "Privacy" or "Security" tabs.

You can find out what version of Microsoft Explorer you are using by clicking on "Help" on the toolbar at the very top of your screen and then "About Internet Explorer". Other Internet browsers will have different settings.
