Frequently asked questions
What happens when I click on Book or Make Enquiry?
Using our contact telephone number and sales enquiry email address, you can contact a travelguru.tv consultant who will be able to provide additional information and take some basic information to progress your enquiry. Travelguru.tv is not a tour operator or travel agent. We are a travel promotions website promoting a range of third party tour operators’ packaged holidays and products. Therefore, we do not charge or take any payments directly from the customer.
In most cases, we will initally contact the relevant tour operator partner on your behalf and check availability or provide additional information. Any subsequent communication or booking information will come directly to you from the tour operator. If you have specific questions on the holiday or the destination, the tour operator’s specialist reservation staff will be best placed to answer your queries.
Bookings will be subject to the relevant tour operators’ or suppliers’ terms and conditions which you should read carefully before proceeding. Any subsequent changes, amendments or cancellations will be dependent on the relevant tour operator or supplier booking terms.
Is it cheaper to book direct with the tour operator?
No - our services are totally free to our customers and we have negotiated agreements with our tour operator partners. In most cases, the travelguru.tv offer will be a unique package or the price will be cheaper because we have negotiated an exclusive deal for our customers. In order to take advantage of these offers, you need to confirm to the tour operator that you are a travelguru.tv customer at the time of booking.
Why should I register my details to become a travelguru.tv member?
You will not need to register your details to browse our main site, view our videos or book most of our recommended holidays. However, to access some of the other areas of the site and get additional benefits and functions, you will need to register. This simply involves providing us with your name and email address.
When you have registered, you will be able to access the Members' area where you can read and post reviews about our featured holidays. You will also find additional "member only" exclusive offers and competitions as well as travel news and advice.
What will happen to my personal details?
If you decide to book a travelguru.tv holiday, you will need to provide your details to our tour operator partner as part of their normal booking procedure. Travelguru will not have access to this information unless you choose to share your information with us. If you are concern, please ask our tour operator partner about their own data protection policy at the time of booking.
Please see our Privacy policy for more information.
What are the benefits of booking a package vs doing it yourself?
Hassle Factor
Booking a package holiday avoids all the hassle and time needed to put together all the different components of a holiday yourself.
Admittedly, booking a low cost flight and hotel online is quite straightforward for many people and if anything goes wrong, the financial outlay and potential risks are quite low. However, things get a bit more complicated when you look a more expensive or complex holiday where the financial outlay and risks are higher. This is particularly true of holidays involving long haul flights, touring or trips including excursions, tickets to specialist attractions and cultural events. Putting all this together yourself would be quite difficult and in some cases, would not be possible without local contacts with specialist suppliers.
Protection
If you construct a holiday yourself and something goes wrong with the arrangements - a company goes bust, a flight gets cancelled or something is incorrectly booked, then it is all down to you to sort things out with each individual component. You will need to read all the small print for each component of your holiday to be sure of all the individual terms. In many cases, there will be no refunds, compensation or options to take an alternative arrangement at no extra cost.
When you book a package holiday with a bonded tour operator and something goes wrong with any component of the holiday, it is the tour operator’s responsibility to sort it out by offering you alternative arrangements or providing some form of compensation. In short, it is just simple peace of mind to know that your money is protected and you have one point of contact.
Emergencies
What happens if there is an emergency when you are on a trip you arranged yourself? Well basically, you are pretty much on your own and so you would have to rely on the local Consulate or your travel insurance company.
On a package holiday, you will have the support of the tour operator who will be experienced in dealing with overseas emergencies and will know what needs to be done. In some cases, they will have local representatives or tour guides to help you as well as the support of the UK head office team. If an airline or hotel has problems, your money will be safe.
Other Benefits
In some cases, travelguru.tv and/or the tour operator will have negotiated an exclusive deal which you would not be able to get if you make your own arrangements. Plus, we have put together some interesting holiday itineraries, some of which, you just could not do yourself.
At the end of the day, you get what you pay for and booking a package holiday with a reputable, bonded tour operator gives you that added peace of mind when travelling abroad.
Medical & Travel Insurance
Whilst booking through a tour operator will provide protection for the components of your holiday, they will not automatically insure you for the cost of overseas medical treatment or repatriation in the event of a health related emergency. Whether you book the components of the holiday yourself or book through a tour operator, you should always ensure you have adequate travel insurance. Our partner tour operators will be able to answer any questions relating to a particular holiday and help you to take out insurance or you can make your own arrangements. It is worth bearing in mind that if you travel abroad more than once a year, it can often be cheaper to take out a multi-trip insurance policy. More independent information on travel insurance can be found at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office www.fco.gov.uk and the British Insurance Brokers’ Association www.biba.org.uk
